This build is a small framed build that showcases the natural and architectural landscape of the island country of Iceland!
I chose to portray Iceland through LEGO because of its uniqueness as a landmass. Being the product of volcanic activity, Iceland boasts expansive mountains, towering volcanoes & cascades, vast ice caps, and iconic architectural sites that define its place in the world. LEGO boasts its own sets that feature unique places around the world in the form of the Architecture Series, so why not go a step further and showcase a country's landmarks by building the WHOLE country!
Several iconic spots were chosen to be apart of this build, including:
- Reykjavík (Iceland's Capital and Largest City)
- Dyrhólaey Lighthouse (An iconic tourist attraction on the coast near the village of Vik)
- Reynisfjara Beach (Arguably Iceland's most iconic black sand beach)
- Diamond Beach (One of the most iconic of the black sand beaches. It boasts a landscape of washed up icebergs that glisten like diamonds)
- Kirkjufell (A popular mountain on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland's Western Region. Arguably the most photographed mountain in the country)
- Öræfajökull (Iceland's Largest Active Volcano and Highest Peak)
- Vatnajökull (Iceland's Largest Ice Cap)
- Langjökull (Iceland's Second Largest Ice Cap)
- Hofsjökull (Iceland's Third Largest Ice Cap)
- Dettifoss (One of the most iconic waterfalls in Iceland, and the second most powerful in Europe)
- Elliðaey (An island apart of the Westman Islands Archipelago that boasts the iconic "World's Loneliest House")
Additionally, some minor details were added to the build to give it a little bit more life:
- Aurora Borealis
- Campsite
- Puffin Bird
- Breaching Whale
- Arctic Cruise Ship
Iceland has an extensive range of wonders to its name, and it was a very fun challenge deciding what iconic locations to choose to portray in the build! The island is very diverse and is known for being a place tourists flock to in order to see stunning environments that are unique to Iceland.
I believe that this build will be a great choice as an official LEGO set because it helps to bring to light the hundreds of world wonders in the form of a miniature scale model! It could help builders of all ages from all over the world experience the landscape that the country has to offer in the comfort of their own home, and increase their appreciation and intrest for the world around them!
