“I need to know how to defeat an Afanc.”
-Merlin

BBC’s wonderful show Merlin has run for five thrilling seasons and now the adventure continues in LEGO form! The series Merlin is a reimagining of the classic King Arthur tales, with the sorcerer Merlin as a young man living in Camelot where magic is banned. He must conceal his powerful abilities while protecting the kingdom. Filled with magic, action, and monsters, Merlin would be a perfect addition to LEGO.

This set is loosely based on the episode “The Mark of Nimueh.” As Merlin, Arthur, and Morgana search the underground of Camelot for a mysterious presence, the beautiful but villainous Nimueh sends the beastly Afanc to destroy them. Confronted by the powerful monster, the three heroes will have to rely on each other to defeat it, or die trying.

The main feature of this set is a section of the caves beneath Camelot, as well as the water supply. I believe the set would work extremely well as both a playset, and a display area. Also included is a small representation of Nimueh’s cave with her magic water basin that she uses to watch the heroes.

Accessories include two torches, the sword Excalibur, and the Afanc egg.

Four minifigures are included: the most powerful sorcerer to ever live, Merlin; the king to be, Arthur Pendragon; the kind hearted witch, Morgana; and the lovely but dangerous Nimueh.

And now for the big bad beastie of the set: the Afanc! The Afanc contains five points of articulation and is tough enough to take on any Camelot knight. I’ve used many techniques unfamiliar to myself to make him as show accurate and playable as possible.

This set would allow Merlin fans to play out one of the greatest episodes of the series, as well as create their own stories in a time of magic. I believe it would also appeal to non-fans, as it contains four fantasy oriented minifigs, a cave area, and a large monster. If you want LEGO Merlin to become a reality, please support and leave a comment if you have the time. Thank you so much for reading!
