Forrest Gump: Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates!

Introducing the Forrest Gump box of chocolates! Inspired by the iconic scene from the classic 90's movie Forrest Gump portrayed by the amazingly talented legend which is Tom Hanks.

This idea is completely unique, never being done before and arguably depicts one of the greatest moments in American film history. This creation allows you like Forrest to take the chocolates out of the packaging and share with others. I wanted something that honoured the movie scene, incorporated my own sense of imagination and creativity as well as something that could be a beautiful display prop on your shelves or desk, which you could hopefully gift to someone else if you wanted to of course. The chocolate box has the ability to open and close, depending on your preference of course. I decided to do that as I wanted to give this set a sense of playability and display ability as well, so that appeal would be widened for so many people. The colours of the packaging including the ribbon match the reference of the movie, which I went back and watched while designing this Lego set so that I captured it correctly and giving you something authentic and highly detailed.

I built this because I am a massive fan of both Tom Hanks (Who is my favourite actor of all time), but also I am a huge fan of the movie Forrest Gump. It's a movie that doesn't get much in the way of merchandise, however it was one of the most groundbreaking movies to come from its generation assembled by a brilliant team of directors, production teams and actors giving audiences like myself a movie no one expected to be the highly commercial success it was which went on to win so many awards. For me this movie is very special to me because it reminds me that anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it. Forrest was always judged for being different, but he achieved so much in his life with the support of his friends and family and becoming a honoured hero with many talents without ever seeing himself as that. This scene in particular showcases his human compassion when he is sitting on the infamous bench offering people a chocolate from his box while he tells them about his epic tale of love & tragedy. And delivering my favourite line of dialog from any movie which is 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get'. It's such a great line and of course it deserved to be the name I called this set in honour of that moment.

This deserves to be depicted as a great Lego set as I think anyone would like this. Whether you are a fan of the movie Forrest Gump, or you just love packaging or the variety of different chocolates, this set demonstrates great piece usages and fantastic small details on the delicious treats. Although you couldn't see the chocolates that well in the movie I decided to use my imagination and created my own creations, using a range of elements from the Lego library and making them look and feel like chocolates that could exist in the real world. I also believed that this set was worth making as it adds something new to the portfolio of the LEGO Group, this time it being a piece of packaging. As a graphic designer packaging and prop designs are something that I love admiring and marvelling at. So having the chance to do something I was passionate about and something different that was very exciting and I wanted to share this creation with you the fans. I also wanted to design something that honoured and celebrated the incredible team that created that prop in the film, as it was a pivotal scene which stood out to so many people including myself.
