Knowles Building, the University of Hong Kong

Knowles Building is built in 1973. It is named in memory of William Charles Goddard Knowles, who was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong from 1964-1965.

The facade is probably the most intriguing part of the design of this functionalist building. A waffle sun shading skin is found wrapping the whole block, which creates another layer of facade on top of the inner one. This kind of double layer of facades is called brise soleil, which is a French term meaning ‘sun breaker’.

The building is currently used by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong.

This model set is to recreate the Knowles Building in a suitable scale as one of the architectural models' collections. The site context is represented in grey colour.
