The Inspiration
Beetlejuice is a 1988 film directed by Tim Burton. The plot tells the story of Adam and Barbara Maitland,
a couple of young lovers who die in a tragic accident and continue to live (as ghosts) inside their home.
The story becomes complicated when they have to deal with the new owners, the Deetz family, made up of Charles, Delia and the teenager Lydia.
After numerous attempts to chase away the new arrivals, Betelgeuse will enter the scene, a 'bio-exorcist' who could help them get rid of the annoying tenants, but at what cost?

The film became a cult classic of the 80s, as well as becoming a critical and commercial success. It won numerous awards including an Academy Award for Best Makeup.
In September 2024 Tim Burton gave all of us fans a new chapter, and this is undoubtedly the time to also have an official Lego set dedicated to this fun and iconic film!

The Idea
The main idea of the project is to recreate Adam and Barbara's house, since most of the film's scenes take place inside it.
However, Tim Burton is known for his bizarre and supernatural settings, and some rooms in the house recreate these very settings, which contribute to making both the film and this project so particular.

Let's start from the outside of the house.
After their deaths, Adam and Barbara cannot leave the house. As soon as they cross the threshold they find themselves in another world, literally another world, that is, the desert of Titan, Saturn's moon.
The planet is sandy, and populated by enormous sandworms.
The set features 2 rock formations and a sandworm. You can position the worm as if it suddenly emerged from the sand, or you can place it on the house, as if it goes through the roof.

The house opens completely and the set becomes very playable and fun. The entire rear facade rotates and reveals the rooms inside.

Starting from the top you can find the attic where Adam and Barbara live. In the model that Adam is building you can find many details such as the bridge, the Betelgeuse "house" and a large spider!
There are many other details to discover here, but the most recognizable one is certainly the handbook for the Recently Deceased.
I think i've discovered the contents of a page, do you? 👻

When Adam and Barbara are catapulted inside the model they find themselves in front of the tomb of Betelgeuse. And here it is, still on the same floor.

Downstairs you can find the landing and the staircase leading to the ground floor.
Betelgeuse has transformed into a monstrous snake that tries to scare the Deetz family and their friend Otho.

In the living room and dining room the most bizarre things take place.
During dinner, the prawn cocktails transform into scary hands that grab the heads of the diners.
With the arrival of Betelgeuse you can see Delia's statue come to life and imprison the Deetz!

The set also contains 2 afterlife settings:
- The first is the lost souls room, a long corridor that Adam and Barbara walk through to get to the waiting room.
Here the 2 protagonists meet a Janitor who tells them that this is a room for ghosts that have been exorcised
The room is full of doors and its peculiarity lies in the uneven floor.
In this room I obviously inserted the Janitor minifig and the door from which you can see an exorcised soul wandering aimlessly.
- The second is the waiting room, where Adam and Barbara go to ask for help.
The room reproduces several details of the original set, such as the sofa, the lamps, the entrance with the revolving door and the information desk.
Here you can find the minifigs of Harry The Hunter and the Magician's Assistant (obviously cut in half), waiting their turn.
While you wait you can read the latest copy of The Afterlife, the newspaper of the other world. It seems that sandworm incidents have increased!

The set overall contains the following minifigs:
- Betelgeuse
- Betelgeuse (Trophy Minifigure)
- Adam and Barbara. I also included the sheets with which they try to scare Lydia
- Charles, Delia and Lydia
- Otho, Delia's friend
- The Janitor
- Harry The Hunter
- the Magician's Assistant

Why make this a set?
