Doors
Project Description
Welcome to the colorful and detailed world of "Doors"! My project is a vertical mosaic made with 2864 bricks, inspired by traditional North African architecture, particularly that of Tunisia. Each door opens and tells a unique story through its patterns, colors, and decorations.
Inspiration
Everyone has seen pictures of Tunisian door mosaics. The architecture of oriental doors is fascinating due to its cultural and artistic richness. I wanted to capture this beauty and diversity, creating an artwork that reflects it.
Project Details
- Dimensions: The mosaic measures 53.2 cm in height by 44.65 cm in width, and 13.3 cm in depth.
- Colors: Utilization of bright and subdued colors, notably blue, white, and grey marble, with touches of yellow, purple, gold, orange, and green, reflecting the palette of oriental architecture accented with warm colors.
- Patterns: Each door is unique, featuring traditional patterns crafted with precision, from arabesques to geometric shapes.
- Techniques: Various building techniques are employed to create textures and reliefs with tiles, slopes, and circle pieces, adding depth and realism to each door. For the rotation, I used classic hinge pieces. To fix the doors to the frame, I used several 22885 pieces and to make a strong frame, a combination of pieces 6061, 80796, and again 22885.
- Character: I added a Sultan to complete the set. He fits perfectly with the main entrance, and I found it funny to have someone appear when you open a door. (I built another version with steps and characters on every door, but it had more than 3000 bricks… Haha)
Why This Project?
I have liked doors since I saw "The Circle Hobbit’s Door". Living in Dubai, I wanted to create a frame showing the timeless beauty of traditional oriental doors, which is a tribute to human ingenuity and a bridge between cultures.
Personally, I enjoy opening boxes, like a treasure. With this build, I tried to create a set where you can push and touch. Why create doors if you can’t open them ?
