Hi guys! I am Daniel and now I am 16 years old. This set is my first Lego design, and it a 1958 Cadillac. It was build mainly by bricks and some technic pieces appear as well to fulfill technic functions. The car has a bonnet, a deck lid, and doors with a limit that can be opened; a removable roof; four adjustable seats that are able to slide; and working steering and engine system. The set contains 2420 pieces and is under the scale of 1:12.
The reason I built it is that I am a fan of cars, especially old ones, and that I want to create a perfect lego car with a marvelous appearance as well as various working functions. Since the first set I played when I was five, I have played with the Technic series. I have seen how it had changed and I know the key features of this series. The gears and mechanism are just so charming! Its appearance, however, inevitably contains gaps and wholes, and doesn't look impeccable. Recent years, when I turned to reach traditional sets build with bricks and saw the brick cars, I was surprised by their amazing appearances. What's more, as time passes, working steerings system were added into brick cars. In the Land Rover Defender 90, the suspension system is also added. From all of these developments, I can see a tendency, that the advantages of both Technic and brick series can be combined into a perfect set that has a realistic appearance and an interesting and functional interior. But here is the problem: the very key element of Technic cars, the engine, has never been put into official brick sets. Therefore, in order to realize my dream of creating an ideal car, I wished to put a functional engine in a brick car myself. And I decided ton make this set.
To realize my dream, I have to choose which car to build. I know for an amateur designer like me, the complex curves of the futuristic hyper-cars might be too hard for me to reform. Therefore, I turned to some older cars and finally chose the 1958 Cadillac as my reference. I chose it because it was one of my favorite cars and that I have a model of the car so that it might help me check out how I am doing when designing the lego version of the car. Despite of the personal aspect, for Lego, I believe the 1958 Cadillac can be a great supplement of the range of eras of the Lego brick cars. Either the Ford Mustang, the Porsche 911 Turbo & Targa, the Land Rover Defender 90, the Chevrolet Camaro z28, or the Lamborghini Countach belongs to the end of the 20th century towards the early 21st century, whereas only the Corvette C1 belongs to a much earlier time. Therefore, the existence of the 1958 Cadillac might be able to balance the cars' distribution through time.
Last but not least, I think the 1958 Cadillac would be a great Lego set because I succeeded in truly combining the advantages of both Technic sets and brick sets, which is an achievement that I see as unprecedented. In addition, the 1958 Cadillac is also favored by so many fans throughout the world, and the idea of putting a working engine inside a brick car could also attract many Lego fans and make my Lego set a great one.
