Stańczyk - Brickheadz

I was first introduced to this sad court jester via the painting Stańczyk by Jan Metejko. I loved it immediately. The surface-level image of a sad Renaissance-era jester sitting alone in his red suit, pondering a sadness or loss just feet from a party—it feels relatable.

Stańczyk was more than just a jester in the court of three Polish kings though! Aside from being a prudent satirist and philosopher of his time, Stańczyk has long since become a symbol of independence in Polish culture and art.
