Background
Oblivion is fast becoming a cult-classic scifi film, one with a complex storyline and featuring the most eye-catching vehicle and set designs. The Oblivion Bubble Ship is one such vehicle, with curious shaping, elegant curves and creative design - they even physically built this for really clean practical effects.
Design
I wanted to design this model in my own unique fashion, with the same clean lines and attention to detail as the movie designers did - anything else wouldn't do this classic ship justice! Overall, this model includes 414 pieces, is 14" long x 9" wide x 6" tall. I've designed basic minifigures of Jack Harper and Julia, and included an electric bike to boot.
Features
I've attempted to design this model as accurately to the movie as possible, but also to maximize play value alongside display value. This design features:
- movie-accurate styling
- rotatable engines for take off/landing
- folding landing gear for ‘flying’ mode
- dual-seat, minifig-sized cockpit.
- an elegant display stand to showcase the model in flight, or display without it
- an all ‘legal’ design, with no stressed parts or fragile placements.
- leverages only color-locked parts for immediate building availability (e.g. does not ‘render’ parts in colors that LEGO did not produce)
- decal ready – designed with decals in mind, and no STAMPS (stickers over multiple parts).
Improvement Ideas
This design would look even better with detailed minifigs of Jack Harper, Victoria, Julia, and Malcolm Beech, and would be even cooler displayed alongside a Drone in attack mode. Perhaps these can be added should this Idea become a favorite.
