Coral Reefs make up one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet, which is why they are often called the “rainforests of the sea”. There are thousands of species of coral across the world’s oceans, and the habitat surrounding them supports thousands of other ocean dwelling species. 25% of the species living in the oceans depend on this ecosystem. These reefs help protect coastlines from erosion. A LEGO Coral Reef display would bring the beauty of the reef right into your home and call attention to these scientific marvels.
Coral polyps can take many forms, including reefs and graceful flowing fans, and I tried to represent several of those forms in this display. I also included 3 more recognizable marine organisms that can typically be found around reefs - a Blue Tang, an Angelfish, and a Seahorse. As there was some empty room in the back I went ahead and included a little scuba diver mini figure and treasure chest.
Technical details:
- The set is exactly 1,000 pieces ensuring it could be released at a reasonable price
- Some of the newest parts introduced in 2023/2024 have opened up new possibilities for building variations of coral. This set offers an opportunity to introduce those molds in new color variations.
- The 3 marine animals are suspended via technic axles, connectors, and lift-arms.
- One printed tile is included, a 2x6 tile labeling the display
A representation of a Marine ecosystem in LEGO form could introduce a whole new generation to the exciting world of Marine Biology and inspire people to consider the importance of ocean conservation.
