Alas, poor Yorbrick. I knew him, Horatio.
Have you ever wanted a 1:1 scale LEGO skull for your very own? Now's your chance. I've loving recreated the skull of "Yorbrick" AKA Yorick from Shakespeares classic play, Hamlet. Yorick, of course, was the king's jester, whom Hamlet knew as a child.
For those of you who've seen or read the play know Yorick doesn't say much, but rather provides Hamlet (and Shakespeare) an opportunity to communicate the play's themes. It should also be noted that Yorick doesn't say much (or anything, really), but is one of the most consequential silent characters of classic literature. And now this LEGO version CAN BE YOURS, (should it receive the votes and survive the gauntlet of LEGO approvals process).
Now I should tell you, Yorbrick isn't just a clever assembly of LEGO bricks. He's also an extremely versatile and (dare I say it) educational LEGO set. While obviously useful to those reciting Hamlet, the model is also suitable for everyday display, even fit for Halloween decorative needs. He's also a constant reminder of the inherent fragility of human life and a reminder that one day we too could provide the necessary soul-searching for a young prince questioning his place in this life.
Yorbrick is more than just a pretty face, he can be easily disassembled into 18 separate sections (11 slices for the head, 9 slices for the jaw) giving it a medical display piece vibe. You'll see the sections not only show off the cross-section of the bone of the skull, but also the "grey matter". I should probably mention that the jaw will open and close at whatever position you feel best represents your current mood.Even Shakespeare would appreciate the advanced building techniques! (I suppose he'd appreciate any building techniques as historians agree that his LEGO collection and experience was scant at best).
There's also a small compartment just large enough to fit a Shakespeare minifigure (with writing quill) to show what's on Yorbrick's mind. Should this end up becoming an official set, maybe we can get them to include a range of figures for Yorbrick to be contemplating. Who wouldn't want a Falstaff or Caliban? Probably lots of folks. Maybe you're one of them! Don't like Shakespeare? Swap him out for a minifigure of your choosing (not included). You don't need to be a Drama Kid to appreciate this sweet beauty!
I think we can all agree, this skull statue will make you the envy of your household or workplace. Yorbrick is a must have, and with your vote, this set can become a reality.
