A Simple Roof

When a complete building around the workshop is too much, but still something is needed to protect the minifigs and their machinery from the weather (and at the same time supply some sense of surrounding to the workshop), a simple shed roof might do the trick. The good thing about this is that it can be made from existing bricks, and all the inside of the workshop is still visible. I included a Power Functions motor and LED lights in the design. I feel this makes the set really look complete. What do you think?

A Shed for the Workshop

I have made a design for a shed that would match the Steam Workshop. It centers around the use of dark red and tan bricks, which were common in and around Berlin. The soil in large parts of northern Germany is not rocky, but mostly loam and silt. Bricks were therefore a common building material. The shed features high windows, a large barn door, and a rear entrance.

Inside, the building is illuminated by electric arc lights. I decided to make the Power Functions motor an integral part of the design, because the crank cannot be reached from outside any more. The motor figures as an alternator that provides electricity. In theory, it is all powered by the steam engine. I would love to add LEDs to the arc lights, such as are available from Lego, it just doesn't work with LDD. Then you could look inside the building through the windows and watch the minifigs at work.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to build this model in real life, because many of the bricks I used are not available in the respective couours. However, this is just what it should look like. If you support this, and TLG decides to go with the shed version of the Steam Workshop, it could still come true!

I appreciate all the support and the comments received so far. You Lego friends are an inspiring bunch of people!
