TIE Defender

BACKGROUND:

The TIE/D Defender was a high-performance TIE series fighter developed for the Imperial Navy by Seinar Fleet Systems shortly before the Battle of Endor. Representing a shift in starfighter design from previous TIE models, the ship featured a hyperdrive as well as deflector shields to allow it to operate independently of Imperial capitol ships. The ship's speed and agility, combined with its firepower, made it arguably the most advanced star fighter available at the time. The TIE Defender was armed with four SFS L-s9.3 laser cannons, two Borstel NK-3 medium ion cannons, two SFS M-g-2 general-purpose warhead launchers, up to four missiles of various payloads. The ship's high cost, together with political factors, kept it from achieving widespread use in the Empire and units were assigned only to the most elite pilots.

ABOUT THE BUILD:
It's been far to long since Lego released a TIE Defender. The 8087 TIE Defender from 2010 does arguably look a bit primitive compared to more recent releases. There are already a lot of great TIE Defender builds out there for Lego to choose from, but I wanted to try and build one based on the new cockpit design of the 75101 First Order TIE Fighter and 75150 TIE Advanced x1.This project contains 838 bricks (compared to 304 bricks of the 8087 TIE Defender).
