Elephant March

1) What is it?
This set features a family of elephants on their famous march to a watering hole.  The male elephant is leading the way, followed by the female elephant, and then the baby elephant.  This set has 1,019 pieces.  It is 17" long, 8" wide, 4" high, weighs 39.5 ounces, and sits on a footprint of 12x54 studs.

2) Why did you build it?
I built this set because many LEGO sets seem to feature vehicles or buildings, but not many focus on animals. I selected the elephant because it is a fan favorite animal and easily recognizable.  Part of the fun of this build is making three elephants of different sizes, but still in relative proportion to each other.  (Some of the pictures show close ups of each elephant - male, female, then baby.)  Also, I designed the elephants so they do not have any studs showing.  I think it gives them a cleaner look.  It also allows for more texture on their bodies.  The landscape has studs because it has uneven surfaces.

3) Why do you believe this would make a great LEGO set?
This would make a great LEGO set because, as I mentioned above, there aren't many sets that are about animals.  Plus, everyone seems to like elephants.  This model would be a great display piece, and it would also provide an educational opportunity for kids.  "Hey kids, let's build this cool set of elephants and then look up some information about elephants too."
