This Winnebago with wings isn't the Eagle 5 from Spaceballs, it's actually an official Star Wars ship from the short-lived Droids animated series. The show featured R2D2 and C3P0 getting into trouble all over the place in the years between Episodes 3 and 4. Now I am no Star Wars buff, but I did want to try my hand at creating a set that Lego has never done before. When I stumbled upon this ugly duckling of a ship I could immediately see it in Lego. I'll include a link, but in short it is called the Sand Sloth (most exciting name EVER), named after Bantha-like creatures from Annoo, and was piloted by Kea Moll in the earliest years of the fight against the Empire.

There aren't many reference pictures of this thing from the show, so I had to do the best I could. The set has a somewhat confined interior. Because of all the angles (I know it looks blocky, but there are a lot of subtleties) there is only room for Kea to pilot and the droids to sit in the mid section. Access is gained by removing the front portion from the rest of the ship (4 technic pins). In total, there are 865 pieces used. This is comparable to the Corellian Defender, which retails for right around $60 US. The landing gear all work thanks to some pretty clever mechanisms. This set would be great to swoosh around and play with, and adds a whole new era to the Lego Star Wars Universe!
There are actually quite a few neat little ships that only appeared in Droids, so if anyone is feeling inspired, follow the link above and build one of your own! Please Support, Share, Comment, and Check out my OTHER PROJECTS!!
