For nearly five decades, patrons and partygoers of all ages have found entertainment in viewing the performances of Chuck E. Cheese and his bandmates. Just like the countless children who have celebrated birthdays at their local Chuck E. Cheese since the brand's inception, the entertainment-based restaurant chain itself has changed over the years as Chuck E. has reinvented himself. Having had the opportunity to watch a performance by Munch's Make Believe Band at one of the brand's "Legacy Stores", I was inspired to create a Product Idea dedicated to the legacy of Chuck E. Cheese and to honor each stage of the brand's evolution.
This build, consisting of nearly 950 pieces, faithfully recreates the iconic "1-Stage" layout installed in dozens of Chuck E. Cheese locations in a modular format to accommodate characters being displayed separately or performing together. The stage is divided into five sections, with each being detachable and containing a gear-driven mechanism inspired by the talented builder Sokoda (explicit permission received) that causes a mascot character to be rotated when the exposed gear is turned. The gears align when each section is connected, allowing for each of the five performers of Munch's Make Believe Band to rotate in sync as if they were performing.
Alongside Chuck E. Cheese, Helen Henny, Mr. Munch, Jasper T. Jowls, and Pasqually P. Pieplate (all featured in their 1-Stage "Cyberamic" appearances), the fan-favorite characters Pizzacam and Munch Jr. can also be found on stage. Beyond the 1-Stage layout, the build incorporates elements of Chuck E. Cheese's history with the inclusion of a decorative base featuring a minifigure of brand founder Nolan Bushnell as well as an additional stage segment displaying Chuck E. in his iconic tuxedo-clad look.
The various iterations of Chuck E. Cheese and Munch's Make Believe Band continue to be enjoyed by multiple generations of fans, and the brand's new focus on honoring its legacy alongside the popularity of animatronics make the decision of adapting Chuck E. Cheese into brick-built form as easy as (pizza) pie.
