“Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy.”

A Magical Anniversary!
2025 will be a special year, as it marks the 75'th birthday of C.S. Lewis’s masterpiece ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. Simultaneously, Dinsey’s enchanting movie adaption of this book (carrying the same name) will turn 20! Plenty of reason to celebrate this classic of fantasy with a LEGO set!

The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of 7 books, written by C.S. Lewis and published in the 1950’s. The books tell the stories of kids from our world, who somehow ended up in this magical land. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – probably the best known book – tells the story of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, and their encounters in Narnia. Narnia is under the spell of a cruel witch, who sees to it that it is always winter in Narnia. Together with the godlike lion Aslan, the kids try to set free the realm of Narnia from its evil ruler.

A LEGO diorama
This set features a diorama of Narnia, depicting several important scenes from the book and the movie. The look and feel of this set’s appearance is based on the 2005 movie. The diorama shows the gradual decline of winter and the beginning of spring.

The first scene depicts the encounter between Lucy and the faun Mr. Tumnus, as Lucy wanders through the wardrobe and ends up in Narnia. The poor faun was so in shock to see a daughter of Eve, that he dropped his groceries. The second scene shows how Edmund is seduced by the White Witch. After running into her sleigh, Edmund is invited to join her for some hot chocolate and Turkish delight. The next scene demarcates the transition from winter to spring, as it shows a slowly melting frozen waterfall. Susan can be seen riding a chunk of ice across the river. In the fourth scene, Peter, Susan, and Lucy have reached Aslan’s camp. Spring has set in and together with fauns, centaurs and a variety of mythical creatures, the kids prepare for the battle that is ahead. The last scene shows the cracked ancient Stone Table. Here a tragic sacrifice was made, which set in motion the ‘deeper magic from before the dawn of time’.

The build itself is filled with references to the story. The Wardrobe might be the most iconic of them all. Its design is enriched with the actual panel depictions from the movie. Just next to the wardrobe stands the lantern, where sprouted from the ground during the creation of Narnia. The sleigh of the White Witch is another build in this set. It is not connected to the set through studs, but there is plenty of space to place it in the diorama. Just below the sleigh runs a tunnel, dug by Mr. Beaver and his friend Badger. It provides a much needed route of escape. Aslan’s tent is the next brick-build feature, with a blossom tree standing next to it. Or is it a dryad carrying a message? On the far right of the build ancient ruins surround the Stone Table; perhaps the most magical place in Narnia.

Minifigures and missing figures
This set contains the following minifigures:
  • Peter Pevensie in his Narnian armor
  • Susan Pevensie with her quiver, bow, and horn
  • Edmund Pevensie, enjoying his hot chocolate and Turkish delight
  • Lucy Pevensie in her earthly clothes
  • Aslan (missing)
  • Mr. Tumnus, carrying his umbrella
  • Mr. Beaver (brick build)
  • Oreius, Aslan's trusted general
  • The White Witch (Jadis) wielding her woeful wand
  • Ginarrbrik the dwarf with his whip

This design was rendered through Studio 2.0, which is a great tool for designing LEGO. Unfortunately not all LEGO pieces are available yet in this app. The set should include the following pieces that are currently not available:
  • Aslan the lion should – of course – be part of this set. He would be depicited by the fairly new LEGO lion piece (piece number: 6340155), with manes in the color dark nougat.
  • Oreius now has a brick-build body, but this should be replaced with the actual centaur mold (piece number: 67638)
  • The deer pulling the sleigh are represented here as horses wearing antlers, but they should be replaced with the deer piece (piece number: 6310336), with a very light blueish grey fur, and dark blueish grey antlers.

For this set I designed some custom prints. This was new for me, but it’s a fun challenge and I think they really add something unique to the set:
  • Peter’s Narnian armor torso and shield
  • The panels on the wardrobe
  • Mr. Beaver’s head.
  • Narnian warrior shield and flag
