Welcome aboard my first Lego Ideas Project Idea: the fully functional Micro Carousel! Turn the jewelled crank, and watch the four brightly colored carriages move up and down as the carousel spins around on top of its decorative base! With its bright color scheme, intricate detailing, and cool functionality, this complex model would make a wonderful set!
I wanted to make a functional model that was small, but highly detailed and complex. I finally decided to do a small carousel. It took a lot of trial and error, but I finally figured out how to make the different mechanisms work while still fitting within such small spaces. All the mechanisms are entirely gear-driven and could easily be connected with a Power Functions motor. The finished model measures 6-1/2 inches (16 cm) high, 3-3/4 inches (9.5 cm) wide, and 5-1/4 inches (13.5 cm) deep, with a total of 507 pieces.
I think that this would make a great set for several reasons. First, it is a very complex model that would be a nice challenge for older, experienced builders. Second, despite its complexity, it could easily retail for a fraction of what most Expert Builder sets sell for. It would make a great set for people who are up for a challenge but don't want to spend their entire week's paycheck. Finally, it would make a great display piece and conversation starter. A fully functional carousel of this size would be difficult to build with almost any medium, much less chunky plastic bricks! It would be sure to impress even people who don't normally appreciate Lego as a hobby.
I will be posting a video of the carousel in motion in the updates as soon as I can.
I hope you like my project. Please tell me what you think! Thank you for your support!
