Le Consulat is a small cafe located in the Montmartre district in Paris, France. If you’ve spent any time at all looking at photos of Paris you’ve likely come across a photo of this famous little cafe. So what makes this cafe so popular above the rest …. why is Le Consulat famous? Is it it’s prominent location at the center of Montmartre? The charming decor and cozy patio? Or maybe it’s the authentic and delicious food? I think it’s all of it … and one other key factor that you might not have known about, it’s rich history and famous patrons.
Le Consulat dates back to the early 19th century. Artists from around the world would flock to Montmartre for the delicious food and views of Paris. Some of Le Consulats famous patrons include Picasso, Sisley, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Monet. Van Gogh used to frequent Le Consulat and spend the evening enjoying great food and conversation with his friends.
