Chichen Itza - El Castillo Past and Present

El Castillo in Chichen Itza is undoubtedly one of the iconic and famous structures of the ancient world, and with its scale and its beauty, there is little wonder why it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. However instantly recognizable this pyramid may be now, it has not always looked this way. Instead of the currently gray appearance of the stone, this pyramid had at one time been painted vibrant colors. In my Lego model, I tried to depict as accurately as possible both the reconstructed El Castillo as it exists today as well as what renderings have shown the original pyramid to have looked like when it was brand new.

I have been fascinated with ancient cultures and their buildings all of my life. I have a background in architecture and have traveled the world to see many of these wondrous places in person. One day I will make it to Chichen Itza as well. With this project, I hoped to be able to bring this iconic structure to life in a way that hadn't been seen before. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see this ancient pyramid brought to life in Lego, both its past and its present. Please support if you feel the same way.
