I visited this magnificent piece of architecture a few years ago in a sunny but ruthlessly cold winter. On that very day even LEGO bricks would have shattered to pieces. But not so the Turning Torso!
It is located in the outskirts of Malmö (Sweden). I fell in love with its twist immediately. What's most intriguing about this building are the questions it raises:
Why was it built in this calm area?
Who lives or works here?
What is its actual shape (it's really quite hard to grasp)!
These questions made me look at it in wonder. I felt like studying it in more detail and building it with LEGO bricks, it was a nice approach to find answers.
After realizing the pentagon layout used hinges, I had to find a way to make it twist in the right angle over the right height. Additionally, some of the floors are separated by a small gap. I have also created a microscale version of this which you can find on Instagram and Flickr.
Make sure to compare my build to the actual building to get a feeling for whether I nailed it or not ;) Please be gentle - I am not an architect!
