Help your fellow builder by leaving your feedback based on these three criteria:
- Originality: How original is this - never seen before?
- Building Techniques: How much skill do you think the creator of this MOC has, in terms of building technique?
- Details: Express how much you like the details of the build.
Your feedback is only shown to the creator as well as yourself. It is not available for other users to see. The creator won't see your user name.
The Last Starfighter tells the story of a trailer-park teen, Alex Rogan, who gets recruited by the Star League (an alien defense force) to defend Rylos and "the Frontier" against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada.
Alex and Grig (an alien pilot) crew the Gunstar One, an iconic spacecraft which came from the creative genius of Ron Cobb.
The Build
The Last Starfighter features two custom minifigs with custom prints - alien pilot Grig and human Alex.
I went back to original film footage to ensure as many details as possible were captured while still keeping the starships size swooshable. The ship has deployable landing gear allowing it to be posed vertically.
The stickers and custom minifigs were created by me using Gimp and Bricklink Studio Parts Designer.
Why should LEGO create The Last Starfighter (not just 80s nostalgia)
The Last Starfighter was the first film to incorporate groundbreaking CGI effects rather than traditional physical models. Rendering the 25 minutes of space shots took over 2 years on a CRAY supercomputer.
I can't think of a more poetic way to honor the first spaceship entirely computer generated than with a physical LEGO set.
