Good evening. Presented to you is a set of two Malaysian shophouses
This model consists of two shophouses spanning two baseplates (32x32+16x32). They are built based on those seen in my hometown, with the white one being a coffeeshop, and the tan one divided into a biscuit shop on the lower floor and a tailor shop on the upper floor.
The white coffeeshop features two floors of seating, with a kitchen for cooking on the ground floor, and a drink preparing station on the 1st floor. Additionally, the two floors are connected via stairs and a landing between floors which houses a bookshelf and a record player. On the ground floor, there is a brick-built painting of fish swimming inside. These sorts of paintings are typically seen in business premises as they help to usher in good fortune.
As for the tan shophouse, it is divided into two premises, as stated earlier. The biscuit shop on the ground floor has enough shelves and places to display merchandise. In addition, there is also a display counter for pastries, and a counter for selling tea .
Heading up the stairs at the side leads to the tailor shop above, fully stocked with fabrics and having two sewing machines, one modern and one antique.
Lastly, the roofs of both buildings are built similarly, and both have an airwell as is usually seen in Malaysia. The construction of the roofs mimics the method done in real-life, using 1x3 slopes and 2x3 slopes supported by beams of 1x6 and 1x2 bricks.
I built this set as a way to get people to know about Asian architecture that is more than the typical "arched roof, pagoda-esque" design that is seen in LEGO these days. Additionally, I built this design to provide a different version of Modular Buildings than what is currently seen.
I believe this would make a great LEGO set as it is a different take on the current series of Modular buidlings. In addition, I believe that this model would help to preserve this style of building, which is unique to Malaysia.
