The Lion's Head Inn - The Invisible Man (1933)

The classic Universal picture "The Invisible Man" released in 1933 alongside other classic monsters such as Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, Wolf Man, anand The Creature from the Black Lagoon. All of which have made an appearance in Lego form in the past, all but The Invisible Man. This project aims to rectify that.

If you are unaware of the story of "The Invisible Man" here is a quick synopsis: While researching a new drug, Dr. Jack Griffin stumbles on a potion that can make him invisible. When he reveals his new ability to his old mentor, Dr. Cranley, and his fiancée, Flora, it's clear that a side effect of the potion is insanity. Jack goes on a violent rampage, and the police struggle to hunt him down, unable to see their target, while his mentor and his former partner Dr. Kemp desperately try to devise a plan to capture him.

To remain authentic to the original black and white film look, this model only used seven Lego colors (black; white; flat silver; light bluish gray; bluish gray, trans-clear; trans-black) inspired by the noir detective from CMF Series 25. I chose to build the Lion's Head Inn as it's the setting for most of the iconic scenes of the 1933 classic. I have selected three rooms to replicate faithfully to the film: the bar; the stairway; and the guest room. All three rooms connect to each other to authentically recreate the first few scenes from the film. Each of these modules are detachable from one another to closer inspect the detail that may be hidden by each other. I also included 2 side builds to really encapsulate the film. The first is relatively self explanatory, it's a title plaque, spruced up with mounds of snow, wind detailing, and snowflakes to recreate the opening scene. Two figures of both Flora and the most iconic look for the Invisible Man himself are adorned on either side. The second build is of Kemp's car with a striking fully transparent minifigure to represent Griffin in his full invisible form.

Every figure includes a custom designed torso pattern and many a unique face patterns to encapsulate the characters in the film. All (but one) new designs were made entirely by me. The pattern for Griffin's pajama figure is a recreated version of the one designed by Firestar Toys.
