The Heart of Gold

"Two to the power of fifty thousand to one against and falling…"

Welcome to the Starship Heart of Gold from The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy!
I was inspired to design this model after reading Douglas Adams’s famous book and watching the classic 1981 TV series.

About the model

This model is based on Zaphod Beeblebrox’s starship which he stole from the Imperial Galactic Government while he was President of the Galaxy. As described by Douglas Adams, the starship is “shaped like a sleek running shoe, perfectly white and mindbogglingly beautiful” . The whole spaceship was a challenge to design, but especially the front section, because as far as I know, no one has ever created this shape before in Lego. The Heart of Gold’s interior includes the Main Bridge, a long corridor running the length of the ship, the Engine Room housing the Infinite Improbability Drive, and the Upper Bridge.

The Main Bridge includes the Rotating Control Platform, a large display screen, a Babel Fish Dispensing Tank, and the ship’s onboard computer - Eddie. The Engine Room contains The Infinite Improbability Drive, complete with The Golden Bail of Prosperity. The Main Engine incorporates a red light brick, adding a luminous glow to the rear of the ship.

The ship can be opened in three places: the roof of the dome can be lifted off, the Upper Bridge’s roof opens on a well-concealed hinge, and the whole Upper Bridge can be removed to reveal the engine room.
