One-Eyed Willy's Cave

Hey You Guyyyyyys! The Goonies celebrate their 40th Anniversary in 2025 and what better way to commemorate than with the experience that started it all. My diorama is inspired by my 11 year old son and our love watching the movie, each of us celebrating the adventure, humor, mystery and excitement as the Goonies gang explores One-Eyed Willy's cave and all the booby traps he left behind. From the old restaurant's basement to the skeleton piano, the gang travels through the cave underneath Astoria in search of the rich stuff to save the Goon Docks. Each time we rewatch the movie, we learn something new about our favorite characters - Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Data, Chunk, Sloth, Steph, and Andy. And we continue to loathe and jeer the evil Fratelli family, Mama, Francis and Jake, that chases them, hoping to get to the treasure first.

The diorama includes:
  • Haystack Rock and the hill where the gang stands with One-Eyed Willy's doubloon to find the entry point to the cave and start the quest of a lifetime.
  • The County Jail where Mama and Francis help Jake escape with a can of gas and a raging fire.
  • The basement fireplace with moveable grate, and the hidden entrance, identified when Chunk knocks over the water jug. Alongside the entrance is the ice cream freezer full with Rocky Road and other tasty flavors. The Fratelli's counterfeit printing machine sits close by ready to produce fake bills.
  • The city's pipes, directly underneath the tennis court at Astoria Country Club, busted by the group as they passed through.
  • Chester Copperpot's skeleton complete with his bag and lantern, and the hanging rocks above that led to his demise. They also encounter the breakable wall, where the bats escape in force.
  • The cave pond where Mouth finds his wish that didn't come true, underneath the town wishing well with a movable rope and pulley bucket.
  • The key room where Mikey turns the lock, starting the cannonball rolling down the track, opening the floor's trap door. With the rope, the gang can lower themselves below, preventing them from certain harm from the rock spikes below.
  • The skull rock, where the gang passes through to final rooms of the cave. The log bridge crosses the raging creek where Data's slick shoes temporarily delay the encroaching Fratelli brothers.
  • The skeleton piano, where the floor drops with every missed note Andy plays, and the rock bridge slowly lowers as she plays each note correctly. Goonies Never Say Die!
  • And finally, the start to the water slide that leads the gang to the Inferno and One-Eyed Willy's treasure.
  • Minifigures for all the Goonies and the Fratelli family including Mikey with One-Eyed Willy's key, Brand with his resistance bands exerciser, Mouth with his trusty hairbrush, Data with his backpack and dynamite "candles" he found along the way, Chunk with his Rocky Road ice cream and spoon, Andy with her boombox full of cheerleader hits, Steph with a lantern she found, Sloth with the pirate sword, Mama Fratelli with her gun and sword, Francis Fratelli with his gun and piece of pizza, and Jake Fratelli with his gun and a blender ready for Chunk's confession.
