The Real Madrid Santiago Bernabéu Stadium was inaugurated on 14 December 1947 and currently has a capacity of 81,000 spectators.
This Idea represents the new Santiago Bernabéu stadium (currently under construction), a winning proposal of the German studio GMP Architect together with the Spanish L35 and Ribas.
This new stadium will be one of the most modern and advanced in the world, creating not only a football stadium but a new concept that brings together sport, fan experience, museum experience, leisure, shopping and architecture.
The new stadium will be 57 meters high, allowing for a capacity of 82,000 spectators. The existing museum will also be expanded and a new interactive museum, commercial area with restaurants, shops and even an entertainment center with virtual reality and eSports stations will be opened.
The stadium will have a wraparound skin that will also allow the projection of images to the outside, in a privileged location in Spain's capital city, as well as one of the largest retractable roofs in the world with 70 m.
It will also feature a 360-degree screen, as well as a new retractable grass system that will allow it to be transformed into an unparalleled performance space.
The new Santiago Bernabéu will be one of the greatest icons of the city of Madrid and Spain, located in the heart of the Paseo de la Castellana, it is in one of the best-connected areas of the city, and with the current construction progress, it is expected to be finished during 2022.
What motivated me to present this Idea?
Real Madrid is one of the most successful football clubs in the world, and for this reason, I think it deserves to have its own LEGO Architecture model, but when I thought about its construction, I was also attracted by the challenge of developing a design based on curved lines, with the added complexity of representing on a mini-building scale the enveloping skin that defines it and makes it one of the most modern and spectacular stadiums in the world, without forgetting the way it transforms its surroundings.
This set would allow facing the challenge of complex and dynamic construction, but at the same time fun and whose final result is a gift, not only for the Real Madrid fans around the world but for any football fan.
The construction includes, in addition to the stadium, the stands and grass, and 360 screens together with the retractable roof, which simulates the real functioning of the stadium.
