Build Your Own Pizza Slice by Spinach Bricks

What even is this supposed to be?

"Build Your Own Pizza Slice" is a customizable slice of pizza, a display piece that reflects the monumental impact of this food staple, and recreates the deliciously fun experience that is making pizza your own way. The set is built upon a display stand, meant to represent the iconic marble columns of Rome, and remind us of pizza's origins in the beautiful country of Italy. The slice itself consists of a base slice, the classic cheese pizza with glorious melting mozzarella and tomato sauce. I made sure to make the base as detailed as possible, so it could still be displayed without toppings. Speaking of toppings, I chose seven of the most popular decorations that can be easily placed and removed using a one-stud connection. The toppings, as are displayed on the second slide, consist of mushrooms, tomato slices, pepperoni, onion, peppers, sausage, and olives. With these materials, you are free to reproduce many of the classic arrangements, such as pepperoni (slide 4), veggie (slide 5), or you can get creative and make something no one has seen before!

Why did you choose to build this?

The pizza started as an affordable street food for 17th century Italians, but has since spread to the entire world and remains a staple of, well, food in general. I personally have many childhood memories of making pizza in a brick oven, and how fun and easy it is to experiment with different flavors and textures. Obviously this pizza slice is NOT for eating, but I wanted to simulate the same kind of interactive experience in a new medium, LEGO bricks.

Why will this be an incredible LEGO product?

One of the best parts about LEGO as a construction toy is that sense of freedom and creativity that the selection of bricks guarantees. In "Build Your Own Pizza", the ability to customize the set further after building is crucial. I like to imagine a parent building the more challenging base section of the model, and letting their child customize the slice, resulting in a beautiful family bonding experience. In addition, "Build Your Own Pizza" could be a great experiment for the LEGO Group to gauge interest in food-related models. There is a whole food-loving community who I'm sure would love to be represented in the LEGO product line-up, and this could be one of many LEGO meals released in the future!
