Blue Spirit Mask - Avatar: The Last Airbender

The Blue Spirit mask made its first appearance in episode 13 of season 1 of the show Avatar: The Last Airbender by Nickelodeon. In this episode, appropriately named 'The Blue Spirit', the secret identity behind the mask is the big underlying question throughout the episode. Who is the person behind the mask that helps our protagonist?

'The Blue Spirit' has always been one of my favourite episodes of the show because of the mystery surrounding the Blue Spirit persona. After my latest rewatch I had the inspiration to recreate the mask in LEGO because I think the mask has an amazing design and the character behind the mask is one of my favourite characters of the show.

The build consists of 598 pieces. I tried to recreate the scale and various angles of the mask as best as I could. The model can be placed on a desk or shelf, but I have also added a piece so that it could be hung on the wall. One of my favourite aspects of the build are the two frog pieces used in the nose of the mask. This is because of two reasons: firstly, because a lot of LEGO sets use frogs in unique ways. Secondly, it is a reference to the frozen frogs which Avatar Aang had to find in the episode 'The Blue Spirit'.

The reason I believe this would be a great LEGO set is because it is instantly recognizable for fans of the show and because the mask is used by one of the show's most beloved characters. The show itself also remains popular, with a possible resurgence in popularity due to the live-action remake made by Netflix. Additionally, it could also be a great set for people who did not watch the show as the mask also looks like the face of an Oni, a creature from Japanese folklore. It could therefore also appeal to people with an interest in Japan or who are fans of LEGO Ninjago.
