This LEGO model is a homage to Casper the Friendly Ghost! It is a display piece with two secret rooms
and is chock full of Casper references!
Who is Casper the Friendly Ghost?
Casper is an animated cute child ghost who became popular after being featured in a light-hearted cartoon series in the 1940's. Unlike the other ghosts in the series, Casper seeks friendships rather than scares and journeys to various places to find people (and animals!) to befriend, often helping them to overcome obstacles as he convinces them that he is not a ghost to be afraid of. He lives in a haunted house with his three uncles, who continuously criticize Casper for being too friendly.
Casper has also been featured in several animated movies, a live action movie, and a comic series.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
I designed this model to be a tribute to Casper the Friendly Ghost.
The visible part of the model is an aged hallway in Casper's home. I have designed the large decorated wall in Victorian-style to give the hallway a vintage appearance. Hidden within the wallpaper are bat elements that accentuate the spooky nature of the walls.
From each wall hangs a framed work of art, both of which appear to be floating eerily out of their respective frames…
Through the wall, Casper is making his surprise appearance and greeting the viewer with a warm hello, just as he does in the shows, movies, and comics.
On the floor of the hallway is Casper's failing report card from Ghost School, a reference to a comic book cover. There is also a creepy crawler going about it's business.
The walls can SLIDE open, revealing a secret room-- Casper's Bedroom, in minifigure scale! There are tons of references to be found here... Can you find them all???
The center wall painting in Casper's room can be swapped out for an alternative one (featuring his uncles!) should you choose. The alternative painting as well as several other Casper-related items are stored in a secret chamber beneath the model, which can be unlocked by swiveling Casper's report card. With these additional items, you can decorate Casper's room in any way you choose!
WHY?
I chose to make this LEGO model because Casper is the reason I have come to enjoy spooky things and Halloween, and he stands for something more than himself. It was incredibly novel at the time to take a ghost, known for it's scary nature, and completely flip the script by turning the ghost into someone who is good and kind. Casper is constantly trying to better the lives of those around him by unconditionally helping them, forming friendships in the most unlikely of places. These themes would truly shine in a LEGO model.
SUPPORT:
If you enjoy silly ghosts, buildable haunted houses, or anything Victorian, or simply enjoy the design of the model, then please support this project! I would be beyond grateful!
