Help your fellow builder by leaving your feedback based on these three criteria:
- Originality: How original is this - never seen before?
- Building Techniques: How much skill do you think the creator of this MOC has, in terms of building technique?
- Details: Express how much you like the details of the build.
Your feedback is only shown to the creator as well as yourself. It is not available for other users to see. The creator won't see your user name.
I am very happy to present to you my second product idea submission: the Gaia Space Telescope!
Gaia is a space observatory of the European Space Agency (ESA), launched in 2013 and expected to operate until 2022. The spacecraft is designed for astrometry: measuring the positions, distances and motions of stars with unprecedented precision. The mission aims to construct by far the largest and most precise 3D space catalogue ever made, totalling approximately 1 billion astronomical objects, mainly stars, but also planets, comets, asteroids and quasars among others.
The mission has been hailed as an astronomical revolution and I think that Gaia deserves to be immortalised in Lego form. What better way to celebrate this incredible achievement in astronomy than making the Gaia Space Telescope into an official Lego set? If you agree then click the support button to bring this one step closer to being a reality.
The model itself can be split into two sections: the disk which is made up of six 'pizza slice' wedges that clip together with hinge plates to form a circle, and the central cylinder which is where the instruments would be located. I have also included a simple tripod stand which allows you to angle the model on display. The most used colour is a metallic silver with highlights of metallic gold.
I was inspired to build this as I have a passion for all things space, and astronomy really interests me. I love seeing all the space-themed product ideas that are submitted here but have realised that these are often missions from NASA or SpaceX and there are not very many from the European Space Agency. The breakthroughs and incredible discoveries that the Gaia mission has already made amaze me!
I believe that this would be a great addition to any space fan's Lego collection. I think that it would make an excellent display piece for a relatively small and cheap set and would look great together with other space sets that have already been made, or any in the future.
Thank you for reading about my idea, the Gaia Space Telescope! I hope you like it! I would really appreciate it if you support this product idea or leave a comment about what you like and think needs improving about the model. Let's try and get to the magic 10,000!
Thank you!
