Giant Pacific Octopus

The Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest species of octopus living today. Large specimens can have arms that span more than 10 ft across. Found in the cold water of the North Pacific Ocean as their name suggests. Using venomous saliva and a parrot like beak they feed on crustaceans such as crabs as well as other small animals that live among the rocks where the octopus makes its home. Masters of camouflage, they can change not just their color but also their shape and texture. On top of all of this octopus are by far the smartest invertebrate in the world. Their brain cells are distributed throughout their 8 arms around a central, ring shaped brain. This makes them excellent problem solvers, even able to use simple tools. Their versatile life style and creative thinking make them an excellent metaphor for experience of building with LEGO bricks.
