*Design Concept and Inspiration
We want to create nice storytelling with a cozy and joyful feeling, so we take the scene in Norway to build our scenario. We love windmills and believe that theWindmill Houseis one of the best sustainable buildings in terms of architecture and the use of renewable energy. It has a very long history and plays an important role in European societies in countries like Denmark, Holland, and Portugal but also envisions their role in modern, eco-friendly living. It offers very clean energy by harnessing the power of the wind. The windmill house model is designed with approximately 3,960 LEGO pieces for celebrating "National Windmill Day" (on the second Saturday of May every year).
The Windmill House is inspired by the iconic architecture of the Kastellet windmill in Copenhagen, Denmark. This MOC project breathes new life into the traditional windmill by integrating modern design elements while preserving its historic form. The result is a harmonious blend of historic charm and contemporary living. The structure highlights the importance of renewable energy by showcasing the windmill's ability to harness the power of wind — offering a clean and sustainable energy source. The building's exterior retains the traditional windmill silhouette while incorporating modern materials such as vertical glass panels and functional facade elements. The carefully crafted layout is both aesthetic and practical, showcasing innovative design solutions to merge history with modern lifestyle.
*Exterior Design:
- Functional Windmill: The windmill blades can rotate, either manually or by the flow of air, and the windmill can be adjusted to different wind directions.
- Dynamic Facades: All facade panels can be opened, providing interior visibility and functionality.
- Integrated Landscaping: A large base platform surrounds the Windmill House, featuring:
- A lush tree on one side of the building.
- A mini dark blue car parked nearby.
- A charming garden filled with flowers and plants.
- A picnic scene with two couples enjoying food, music, and nature.
- Additional details, such as a red mailbox and two bicycles by the front door.
*Interior Design:
It is divided into three levels, each designed for comfort, functionality, and storytelling:
Level 1 - Living and Dining Spaces
- Living Room: A cozy space featuring a fireplace, a comfortable sofa, a coffee table, and thoughtful decorations.
- Dining and Kitchen Area: A compact, foldable dining table paired with a modern "I-shaped" kitchen.
- Bathroom: A clean, modern style and bright bathroom with an opening rear wall and a rooftop that can be removed for seeing the interior.
Level 2 - Sleeping and Studying Areas
- A tranquil and modern sleeping space complemented by a functional study area with stylish furniture.
- A folding ladder provides access to the upper level.
Level 3 - Creative and Play Zone
- A dedicated area for creativity and relaxation, perfect for building LEGO models and spending quality time together (One of our favorite areas).
*The Story Behind the Windmill House
Two couples, David + Tiffany and Kitty + Lucas, set out for a long spring holiday to escape the hustle and bustle of modern city life. Seeking "hygge"—the Danish concept of comfort, coziness, and well-being—they traveled to the picturesque town of Balestrand, Norway, where they stayed at the charming Windmill House nestled in nature's embrace. The couples spent their days enjoying simple yet meaningful pleasures. They prepared a delightful array of food, including Compo Pizza, Fyrstekake, Suksesskake, and Drømmekage, complemented by refreshing sodas. For their picnic, they set up a cozy spot near the grand tree outside the Windmill House. Lucas, ever the photography enthusiast, captured the serene moments while Kitty, dressed in a flowing white gown, savored the local delicacy Skolebrød (school bread). They also can enjoy the beautiful flowers in the tiny garden.
Their time was also filled with creative pursuits, such as building LEGO models together, deepening their bonds, creating cherished memories, and sharing fun stories. The vacation became a perfect blend of relaxation, creativity, and connection, leaving the couples with a sense of renewal and unforgettable moments shared in the heart of nature. Their stay at the Windmill House wasn't just a getaway — it was a celebration of togetherness, simplicity, and the beauty of finding joy in life’s little moments.
