Small Bavarian Cottage

The Idea

The main idea was to create an accurate model of a half-timbered bavarian cottage (in german „Fachwerkhaus“) from the 16th or 17th century. This type of building is characterized by the visible wooden supporting structure, which is often angled in order to bear the weight of the building. The cottage resides on a stone base and consists of one room, which is used for sleeping, cooking and working and an attic, where foods and other goods are stored.

The Model

The building is ca. 20 cm long, 10 cm wide and around 16 cm high. It consists of around 1400 bricks. The roof can be taken off, so that the interior is visible.

The mostly studless interior contains a small bed, a shelf with various jars and (most important!) a roll of cheese, a sturdy movable door, a working table, a fireplace/chimney in the middle of the room (in order to heat up the whole house in the most effective way) and a small bedside table with a candle holder. If you peek thorough the window in the attic, you can see some more shelves and stored materials.

I hope you like it!
