My Neighbor Totoro - Totoro BrickHeadz
Calling all Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli fans. This BrickHeadz of Totoro, from the iconic anime My Neighbor Totoro, is too cute and would look perfect in any fan's collection.
My Neighbor Totoro was originally released by Hayao Miyazaki (nicknamed the "Walt Disney of Japan") in 1988. Since then it has garnered a wide cult following, and been featured on many lists of best films and aniimated features. Along with this fame, its title character Totoro has become as well known to children in Japan as Winnie the Pooh is in Britain. He is easily one of the most recognizable anime characters of all time. Totoro can now be seen on copious products and toys, appears in other animes, is used as the logo for Miyazkai's Studio Ghibli, and is even the mascot for the Totoro Hometown Fund Campaign, to help preserve the wildlife of Japan's mountain foothills. Most recently, a Studio Ghibli theme park has been announced to open in 2020, and there is no doubt Totoro will be one of its main stars.
With the rise of anime and otaku culture worldwide, I found it surprising that Lego has not capitalized more on this industry. This is, along with my love of Miyazki's films, why I chose to build and submit Totoro as a Lego BrickHeadz set.
I have built Totoro as he is seen at the bus stop, waiting in the rain with a single leaf on his head and a small umbrella to protect him from the elements. He is on a custom raised green base with name plate. The base is also adorned with flowers and ferns to remind builders of the lush and beautiful worlds explored throughout Miyazaki's films. I had so much fun creating this set, and making sure I captured the spirit of Totoro. I think fans will feel just as excited about seeing and building it.
