Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (80th Anniversary Celebration)

“He always said that she could dig as much in a day as a hundred men could dig in a week, but he had never been quite sure that this was true.”

Mike Mulligan and his trusty, red steam shovel Mary Anne have worked on construction projects around the world; together they dug great canals, mountain tunnels, long highways, landing fields, and deep cellars for towering skyscrapers. Now Mike and his steam shovel are in a race to finish digging the cellar for Popperville’s new town hall in just one day– and to prove to the townsfolk that they still belong in a world where electric shovels and diesel shovels have started taking over all of the construction jobs.

Will Mike and Mary Anne be able finish the job before the sun sets? Or, will the greedy Henry B. Swap get the town hall’s cellar dug for free?

Relive the excitement of Virginia Lee Burton’s classic children’s story ‘Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel'. Generations of readers have found Burton’s characters, words, and pictures enduring since the book's publication in 1939; now this Lego set tries to capture some of the magic from Burton’s writing.

Mary Anne the Steam Shovel has multiple points of articulation and the set includes a minifigure of Mike Mulligan.
