I always loved boomboxes so I decided to make my own version of it, because they were a big part of the pop culture and it brings up good memories. But only an empty shell would have been boring so I decided to make every part of it mechanically functioning, because I love if there is some functionality in a Lego design, especially if it means something is moving. It just makes it much more fun.
What my design provides:
Every button and pot meter are working on the set which are the following:
- 6 function buttons which are working just as an actual boombox or any casette player. Push a button, and it will lock itself and will be released when another button is pushed. It even makes the same sound as a real one. I have built the mechanics and it's working fine. See the test video below. Also see the mechanics in the last picture. **Do not push in every button at once because it won't be able to release as seen in the video**
- Radio tuner knob attached to a linear drive so you can tune the frequency. See the test video of the linear drive below.
- Eject button which will release the cassette holder. It will remain pushed in until you push the cassette holder back to closed position
- Separate cassette that can be removed
- Volume, bass, treble, balance rotary knob with limited turning between the min and max values.
- AM/FM slide stitch
- Tape/Radio slide switch
- Antenna and handle. The handle is attached to the inner frame so it should hold it's weight to lift it up.
- The handle is connected to the inner frame so it could hold the weight of the boombox.
Instead of batteries, I made a hidden club with some dancers and a DJ. It's much more fun than some boring batteries.
I believe many would like the idea of a real size boombox made out of Lego in their collection, because I think many of us have some kind of memory towards these tools. Listening and recording favourite musics on tapes or hanging out with friends while listening music. This design can serve as a nostalgic indicator to bring up good memories. And also it would looks cool on a display shelf.
