The Wild Robot

I'm so happy to share my first Lego ideas project, based on the film; The Wild Robot.

The main build of this project is the island where our titular character finds herself stranded. It includes a beach area with water and her box washed up, a high up ridge featuring a birds nest with an egg, a waterfall leading into a stream, a clearing with some pine trees and foliage and a cave that leads through one side of the island to the other. The Island alone consists of 1030 parts.

The Robots:
Roz:
I loved building Roz, the face and body designs were a challenge but I'm so happy with how they turned out. I'm also really happy with my idea to swap out parts to match her look throughout the film, going from her factory default all the way through to a wild robot by the end, each variation can be seen in the image below:

Vontra:
I felt the inclusion of this character was important to provide a bit of an antagonistic force, I'm happy with how she looks and I think the eye I designed for all of the antagonist robots looks suitably menacing. She stands using a clear bar piece and stand which aren't pictured here, meant to simulate her hovering.

RECO Robots:
I've included 4 RECO robots in my design as I didn't want them to dominate the main build too much. The design of this took me a couple of tries, especially when trying to capture the bulky proportions but I'm really pleased with the final result, especially with how I built around the ball joints to give the design the bulk to match its on screen counterpart.

Animal companions:
Gosling/ Brightbill: For Brightbill I used a duck piece, I feel like for the size of the part it represents him well and looks the part when accompanying Roz.

Fox/ Fink: I was slightly limited on my choice of parts in this case, I had to add a design to an already existing part usually used for a dog, so the proportions are slightly off, I still think I've done the best I could've with him though.

Other animals:
I also chose to include a stag, grey squirrel, white rabbit , butterflies, a crab and two otters. Ideally I would've liked to have added more animals but I was limited on the availability of parts I could design with unfortunately.

Extras:
A mossy log is included as well as two sets of rubble, producing tall flames burning a striking colour of purple.
I initially started working on this project all the way back after seeing the second trailer for the film. I was blown away by the art style and the emotion behind the story. The design of Roz especially interested me, she was the first thing I built and the rest of project just kind of came together around her. I love creating robot designs and this was a fantastic opportunity to work on both that as well as building a kind of environment I've never tried before.
I want to preface this by saying that the contents of this project are based solely on the marketing of this film and therefore, this project doesn't contain any spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet.

I believe this would make a great set as this film truly seems to be something special (as is the book of course!), with a fantastic message, a heartfelt story and an undeniably gorgeous style, what's not to love!? My project aims to encapsulate the film, with enough space and aspects to recreate key moments as well as being a visually appealing display, for lovers of animals and nature, to represent what will no doubt be one of the best films of the year.

I hope you enjoy my project as much as I've enjoyed making it, have a wonderful day :)

Note: Light up parts in renders are just for style, this project does not include any light bricks.
