Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You

Mariah Carey's perennial holiday classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is one of the best-selling songs of all-time.  It is truly rare for a modern pop song to transcend into a global Christmas standard and continue to surge in popularity with each passing holiday season.  The single was originally released in 1994, but incredibly did not hit the number one spot on the Billboard chart until 2019 (25 years later).  It has since returned every December to dominate the charts, totaling 12 weeks on top so far.  

Amongst Mariah Carey's deep expansive catalog of hits, "All I Want For Christmas Is You” has emerged as her best-selling and most enduring song.  Mariah Carey co-wrote the song with Walter Afanasieff.  

For this particular idea, I was inspired by Mariah’s 2019 updated music video for the song.  Working with Director Joseph Kahn, Mariah said they wanted to create a modern classic with this production.  The story is about a little girl who sees Mariah (as Santa) in a department store display window.  Mannequin Mariah magically comes to life and invites the girl into a white wonderland.  

This set consists of three sections that are attached by technic pins.  The first scene is the store exterior facade decorated with lots of Christmas flowers and lights.  The second is the interior room of the window display.  Filled with toys and presents, it is a snow covered space with a door in the middle.  This door leads to the third scene, the all-white wonderland.  Here lies MC’s mansion (in cardboard cut-out impression) and an ice rink.  

All these holiday setting means nothing without the leading star.  Mariah has three outfits in the video: Santa Mariah, Nutcracker Mariah, and Sparkle Mariah.  All three are featured in Minifigure form.  The little girl and two Santas on ice skates are also included.

I added some Easter eggs as well.  Mimi's signature motif, the butterfly, is hidden throughout the build.  The lyrics to the song is printed on the backside of the panels.

The enormous popularity of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is not likely to fade any time soon.  It has achieved an incredibly rare diamond certification from Billboard, holds three Guinness World Records, and the video has close to 390 million views on YouTube.  I believe this set provides fans with a model that compliments the infectious nature of the music.  It can be displayed every holiday season when they undoubtedly listen to the song again and again.
