Colosseum for Your Shelf

Does your favorite room have a little free spot on a shelf and you're wishing to fill this emptiness with something that is at the same time cute, not too bulky, artistic, bright (like tan-bright), and with that ancient classical solid touch that only Roman buildings can radiate? If so, here is something for you! - and it's here for you also if you really have no space left for another LEGO ;)

The Colosseum for your shelf was devised as a simple, small-scale reproduction of the modern version of one of the most recognizable buildings in the world and probably the most iconic example of ancient Roman architecture. Built on a 1:1500 scale and sitting on a 18x22 base, it is designed to fit nicely on your bookshelf among books, frames, and maybe other LEGO?

This LEGO model is made of 613 pieces (tan, black, light bluish gray, and dark green). The black tall solid base is designed to host the oval-shape foundation of the Colosseum made of interconnected hinge plates secured to the base in 4 points, and it also elevates the tan-colored structure highlighting its presence and magnificence. The ruins of the hypogeum (the central part anciently covered by the arena floor, now visible) are rendered by some vertical U-clips mounted on a sideways brick wall which is tightly nestled below the ground level of the seating area.

I designed this model first to be desired by anyone in love with ancient classical architecture or at some point falling in love with the Eternal City (why not a glorious keepsake?); then to be built easily but also with a bit of ambition (just as if you were a Roman Emperor, no more) and starting from its intriguing foundations; eventually to be placed on a shelf between dear things and memories, and at last to be admired (yeah, for thousands of years!) in its simple but unmistakable lines.
