This Republic Strike Fighter has a clever mechanism that keeps the guns aligned at all times. I posted its instructions on rebrickable.
I think the next version of the striker-class starfighter should have a little mechanism that keeps the cannons aligned at all times. It's actually quite a robust little mechanism.

By the way, two of these striker class starfighters were created from bricks solely from the venator. I only used two extra cockpit canopies. With the bricks left over I could still build a fury class like spaceship...
