My Neighbour Totoro

Who wouldn't want a LEGO Totoro? The character (Oh-Totoro) we all fell in love with in the movie My Neighbour Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki.

Models are built to minifigure size and I'm planning to include minifigures of Satsuke and her little sister Mei. The stand-ins aren't that similar at the moment. Maybe they will work well as Friends figures. To be included are also the two smaller totoros Chuu-Totoro and Chibi-Totoro to make the set complete however they will need a lot more work. I'll also improve the models making them as efficient as possible and try out different poses.

Update: I've modified the belly to make it a bit rounder almost reaching the nose and I've added feet and a tail with the number of pieces increasing but I have yet to start to optimize the model.

Update 2: Totoro with an umbrella in an iconic pose. with Satsuke and Mei.

Update 3 (2013-04-06): Finally built a first physical prototype model in the base pose to test the design and the integrity of the Oh-Totoro model. I made some refinements to the inner structure to make it stronger. I will continue to refine it and also build several versions with different poses. Six pieces are of the wrong type and color (on the feet). And I would have liked the belly to not be white but rather light bluish grey but I couldn't find all the pieces needed. More updates to come...

Update 4 (2014-03-16): It's been a busy year. Unfortunately not because of my work with this project. But finally I've taken the time to make a small update. I have changed the white belly to a more appropriate light bluish grey. Also I have new pose with Totoro's characteristic big grin and also holding an umbrella. It would be great if an future CUUSOO model of this could include pieces to be able to build a few different poses. I have plans for a couple of other poses that might be fun to have.
