I have always loved the fantasy genre and chess. When I was younger, I enjoyed playing the Battle Chess computer game, watching the pieces move and fight each other.
Seeing the previous chess sets released by LEGO, I have wanted to make my own but never found the right pieces until now.
With the release of the amazing LEGO Dreamzzz minifigures and Collectable Minifigure Mushroom Sprite, I got the idea to a good vs evil chess set. This is not a Dreamzzz themed set. I used the minifigures and various parts available in order to achieve my end goal. Sourcing the pieces over time, looking at other chess sets, I was able to build what you see here. After getting some great response from others who saw my pictures, I feel that this could be a set that will capture the hearts of the young and old, who also love chess and the fantasy genre. The Mushlings of Mushwood Grove vs The Hordes of the Dark Forest Chess Set will make an awesome display piece and very enjoyable playing experience as the forces set out to battle one another.
The story:
In the heart of Mushwood Grove, beneath the towering, ancient trees that hummed with life, King Tobin and Queen Lyria watched over their beloved subjects, the Mushlings. These small creatures of the grove were not warriors by nature, but through the guidance of their rulers, they had learned to be resilient, resourceful, and brave. Tobin, a wise Mage with a gentle heart, had taught the Mushlings the secrets of the forest, showing them how to harness its magic for protection. Lyria, an Enchantress of unparalleled skill, had woven spells into the very air, ensuring that the grove remained hidden and safe from those who sought to do them harm.
Yet, beyond the protective borders of Mushwood Grove, in the depths of the Dark Forest, a storm was brewing. Zorlak, the Wizard King, ruled over this twisted land with an iron fist. Beside him, his Queen Nyla, who shared a bond of blood with Lyria, was the dark mirror of the Enchantress. Where Lyria's magic brought life, Nyla's wrought decay. She longed to see the Mushwood Grove fall, driven by envy of her sister’s light and the life she had built among the Mushlings.
Zorlak’s heart was as black as the shadows that cloaked his land. Under his command, the Darklings, creatures of evil, born from the darkness itself. They were fierce, driven by the promise of power and dominion over the Mushlings, whom they sought to enslave. The Wizard King’s eyes gleamed with malice as he envisioned the destruction of Mushwood Grove, the final barrier between him and total control of the forest.
Word of the impending attack reached Tobin and Lyria, carried by the whispering winds that danced through the leaves. There was no panic, only a resolute determination. The Mushlings, though small, were many, and under the guidance of their King and Queen, they had prepared. The grove’s defences were strong, woven with ancient magic that only Tobin and Lyria understood. But it would take more than spells to defeat the forces of the Dark Forest.
On the eve of the battle, Tobin stood at the edge of the grove, his staff glowing with a soft, warm light. Lyria joined him, her hand gently touching his. “We must face them together, my love,” she said, her voice firm but tender.
“Indeed,” Tobin replied, his eyes full of trust in his Queen. “Our bond is our greatest strength.”
As the first light of dawn crept through the trees, the Darklings advanced, their eyes glowing with malevolent intent. Zorlak and Nyla led them, the air around them crackling with dark energy. The battle was fierce; spells clashed, the ground shook, and the air was thick with the scent of magic.
Lyria faced her sister, their powers colliding in a dazzling display of light and dark. “It doesn’t have to be this way, Nyla,” Lyria pleaded.
But Nyla’s heart had long turned cold. “It was always meant to be this way,” she hissed.
The outcome of the battle hangs in the balance, as two sides; good and evil, light and dark will fight for the soul of the forest. The Mushlings, though small and fragile, stand firm, their courage unmatched. The future of Mushwood Grove was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the battle between the sisters would decide the fate of all.
And so, the tale of this fateful match begins, with only YOU to move the pieces and determine who will emerge victorious.
