Megalodon Starfighter

This is the Megalodon starfighter. A spaceship created in the image of a giant shark - not just for its fierce look, but also for its practicality. Fins and jaws are packed with equipment and functionality useful for rough missions in space. It is not alone however, as it comes with a supporting crew with their own mobile, all-terrain, ground vehicles in form of an articulated command vehicle and fast moving buggy.

The ship is a single seater and features a three-legged landing gear which can be controlled with a lever. The smaller engines and fins on the side can be swiveled for landing and maneuvering and the jaw can be opened up to reveal more of the forward facing radar. Oh ...and it is also a shark with laser beams attached to its head.

The eight-wheeled command vehicle is articulated on three axis between the segments and is standing on large off-road tires, allowing it to go wherever it needs to go. The rear segments of the vehicle can be detached, to be parked or reorganized. The vehicle has crew stations for several of the mini figures and carries a radar dish on a folding arm.

The buggy is the light and fast vehicle for the crew to get around quickly on the ground. The roll bars can open up for the driver to easier get in and out and it has attachment points for some light equipment.

The set is purposely colored and composed a lot like a classic space set - something I used to play a lot with growing up. It is not really trying to be one however. I wanted this set to show what the theme can be, rather than what the originals are - an evolution. Also, the blue and gray colors work well on a shark-like creature/creation. I have spent many hours making pew-pew sounds and swooshing noises, sending mini figures on daring missions with my classic space sets in the past and I think a space set like this one can bring the same kind of joy to many other people. I hope many of you like it and share that thought.

The set mostly consists of System pieces, but there are some Technic in there as well, both for function (like the landing gear) and decoration (like the engine manifolds). In total, including the minifigures, the set is built using about 1600 pieces.

Enjoy :)
