The Carreidas 160 is a supersonic business jet owned by Laszlo Carreidas, "the millionaire who never laughs". It originally appeared in the Tintin comic book Flight 714 to Sydney, in which the jet was hijacked to land Tintin and his friends on a mysterious island somewhere in Oceania, all of which started a new adventure.
The airplane makes a great toy and display at the same time, while carrying the amazing spirit of comics and passion for aviation. This makes it a great set for both children and adults to explore and enjoy the world of Tintin.
This model wasn't originally planned to get on Lego Ideas, but when it was nearly finished, the idea came to me how cool it could be as an actual Lego set. I did my best to make it look as original to the comic as I could. Then I added some accessories like the dust cloud with a parachute to recreate the landing scene. There is also a small diorama of an island beach runway, which I imagined being a prefect display for minifigs as there wasn't enough space for all of them in the plane.
The model makes a wonderful display, and you can play with many different arrangements to recreate different moments from the comic. The airplane is relatively small and with all the accessories there are approximately 1500 parts, making it a very decent set that won't take too much space.
The best part of the aircraft is that its wings are movable to match the original sweep wing design. In real life, this design allows supersonic jets to fly more stable in low speed conditions like landings, while when retracted they make supersonic flight more efficient. Flaps are also movable to make the wings more realistic.
Surprisingly, the model features a small, luxurious interior and even a seat for one passenger (Laszlo Carreidas, that is). The front cabin doors can be opened as well.
All in all, my goal is to create something that will make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves aviation and admires the art of amazing Tintin comics. I really put a lot of effort into details and functionalities, and the result is a very nice set with a lot of possibilities and a great story.
