The Modern Art of Chess

“I have come to the personal conclusion that while all artists are not chess players, all chess players are artists.” - Marcel Duchamp

Who I am

My name is Peter, I am 40 years old and I have two big passions: building LEGO sets and playing chess.

Why I designed the set

I have ever wanted to design my own chess pieces and LEGO has given me the chance to do that. Of course it should be a designer chess set with clear and modern forms, but most important it should be playable. That means recognisable figures of appropriate sizes, with good handling, a solid footing and a clear checkerboard beneath. It took a lot of iterations until this set came out and I am really happy with the result.

To underline the art character of this set I decided to create a small scale chess relief for giving the whole ensemble the final touch.

For who I designed the set

I made this set for all LEGO fans as well as for all fans of the royal game and last but not least for all amateurs of modern design and art.

At the end I really hope that you like this set as much as I do and I appreciate your feedback and your support! Thanks!
