The Clifton Suspension Bridge

The creator of the Clifton suspension bridge, Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born in 1806 in Portsmouth, England. He later became one of the most famous engineers on the planet. He died in 1859.

Some of his greatest acheivements are:

  •  Clifton suspension bridge;
  •  SS Great Britain;
  •  SS Great eastern;

The Clifton suspension bridge was started in 1754 completed 110years later in 1864.  It spans a length of 702 feet (213m) and it sits 245 feet (75m) above the water level at high tide. It weighs about 1,500 tonnes. It is a grade 1 listed building. It is still used toady to carry traffic and pedestrians across the Avon Gorge in Bristol, England.

Unlike most normal suspension bridges the support towers are built straight into the sides of the gorge and I have included this in my model.  The suspension chains are recycled from the Hungerford suspension bridge that was demolished in 1860.

In my lego model, I have used mostly light grey, dark grey and black pieces to create this massive national landmark.I have included a minifigure of Isambard K Brunel and name plaque.

Please support my lego model.
