In the
second half of the last century, the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States
(US) were involved in the space race. In this development race there were many
first times for both superpowers.
With the
USSR’s Sputnik 2, the dog Laika was the first living creature to be put into
orbit. The data collected from this mission paved the way for human space
travel.
This model
consists of 236 parts and shows Laika and the Sputnik 2 capsule. It
commemorates the USSR's achievement of being the first to bring life into
orbit. Plus, it gives Laika the credit she deserves.
