Project REROLL

Perhaps you noticed it already, but this project has received a major edit! Since you wouldn't normally be able to see the old version, I wanted to make sure that these changes are documented.

First, let's take a look at the old project:
There it is! MK I, if you will. It's cute, and it displays the aspects I wanted to highlight about the game, the Prince and a Katamari, but something's missing...

Oh, I feel it! The rolling spirit of the games is much more apparent with this new play feature! Yes, with rolling being so integral to the games, it's hard to imagine I wouldn't have included this in the very beginning. Let's take a closer look at how this is done, shall we?

Perhaps a bit obvious from the GIF, but to accomplish the play feature without just asking the builder to slap the Katamari around, I added a simple crank mechanism. I had to thin out the Katamari to accomplish this, as the original size would have been much too large for the base. The side facing the crank is more or less the same as the other sides, but the side meant to face the viewer has a little design on it meant to look like a little Katamari drawing. Yes, I heard you like rolling Katamari, so I drew a Katamari on your Katamari so you can roll a Katamari while you roll a Katamari.

In order to actually suspend the Katamari to allow for free rolling, I had to thicken up the base a bit. The technic arms need two points of contact with the base so that they don't just flop forward under the Katamari's weight, and the original base just was not tall enough for that.
As you can see, the sky blue base got an entire brick's worth of height added to it! The FOV on the images make it a little hard to tell, but the lift arm connects to the base through two pins on the sky brick and the rainbow brick. On the viewer side, the second pin goes into the violet brick, and on the crank side it goes into the red brick.

You'll also notice that the minifigure from the 100 supporter update is now included in the main project! I'm really happy that part of the edit went through. Everyone loves a good minifigure, and the Prince is such a unique character to be minified! Here's the old side-by-side compared to the new side-by-side.

That's all for this update. Hopefully I'll be back soon with another exciting update! Please continue to share and support the project. We can roll up this 10K Katamari together if we all try!

Your Katamari Has 100 Supporters In It

It's official, this project has reached its first milestone! 100 supporters may be 1% of the way there, but I believe this project can make it. I can't roll this 10K Katamari on my own, so please make sure you're sharing the project. Share it on social media, share it in fan groups, or even share it to just one friend. One more supporter is another step closer to the goal, and like in the game itself, we just gotta keep rolling until we get there.

This update isn't just about the milestone, I also have an update to the project contents itself. Inspiration came down to me on the Royal Rainbow from the King of All Cosmos himself, and this project now includes a mini figure!

Yes, in rolling up our first 100 supporters, we've managed to roll up the gift of a content update. And that's not all! We can't have this little Prince all by himself, so he has his own Katamari to roll as well!

Look at him go! Such a dedicated worker; always trying to get those stars rolled up! Let's take a look at those additions next to the base set. You can also see a couple minor alterations to the original display piece.

Doesn't the little Prince look so cute next to his statuesque counterpart? I think this adds a lot of value to the set. You get one part as a nice display piece for your shelf, desk, or game room, and another part to play around with. Maybe the little Prince can help you roll up your spare Lego pieces once you're done building.

Well, that should be it for this update. Remember to keep sup-

Wait, what's going on there?

Stop! Don't-

Well, it looks like the big Prince rolled up the little Prince. I think I need to step in. Please continue to support the project and share it around. Hopefully I'll find a way to unstick our mini Prince before the next milestone...
