A Roman Siege

This is a model demonstrating, as the title suggests, how the Romans would have conducted a siege on a town. This model includes part of a city gate/wall defended by three soldiers. This part of the model is very detailed and one of the towers and the wall are placed at abnormal angles to make it more interesting. The city is being sieged by 6 Roman soldiers, one of them being a centurion. The Roman’s are using two ballistas, which are essentially dangerously large crossbows. They are also using an onager capable of throwing large rocks very far, smashing into enemy walls. In addition to these the Roman’s are also using a siege tower to scale the walls with troops. Marching toward the wall is the roman “Tortoise”. This was a formation commonly used by the Roman’s to protect the soldiers from rocks and arrows as they approached the enemy, the shields are connected with clips in this model because it would require far too many actual minifigs to accomplish it more accurately.

All of the weapons and techniques in this model are historically accurate, though of course not represented perfectly with LEGO bricks. I have always found the Roman civilization fascinating and thought it would be very cool to build a model based on this theme on LEGO IDEAS.

I believe this would make an excellent addition to the other LEGO IDEAS sets if this was selected, due to the fact that it would have a very wide appeal to people. Some would simply think it looks cool, some would see troops and buy it, and others knowing its historical background and acuracy would not hesitate to add this to their collection.

Quick facts:

I hope you all enjoy this model! Thank you!
